Willie Tan appointed CEO of UCSI Schools

Tan joins UCSI Schools after expanding UCSI University’s global footprint.

UCSI Group has appointed Willie Tan the CEO of UCSI Schools - a crucial arm of its education division that operates international and private schools.

Tan takes on his new role after serving with distinction at UCSI University where he led the Student Enrolment Centre and subsequently, the Global Engagement Office.

His previous efforts saw the University establishing links with leading universities around the world while his enrolment drives resulted in larger intakes over a considerable period of time.

Welcoming the new challenge, Tan said that the downstream move came at an ideal time in his career.

“I’ve spent 26 years in higher education so this is a great opportunity for me to contribute to grassroots-level change” he said.

“Primary and secondary education have never been more crucial in a world of unprecedented change. Technology and automation are making jobs - and even entire industries - obsolete and today’s students must be nurtured from a young age to be creative, agile and adaptable.

“Given the new economic realities, the need to redefine education is undeniable and I’m thankful for the opportunity to make a difference at UCSI Schools.”

Announcing the move, UCSI Group CEO and founder Dato’ Peter Ng said that he was confident that Tan would play an instrumental role at UCSI Schools.

UCSI currently operates two international schools and two private schools in Subang Jaya and Springhill, Negeri Sembilan.

UCSI International School Springhill is an IB World School with full boarding while its sister school in Subang Jaya offers a British curriculum that culminates with the IGCSE. UCSI also runs Sri UCSI private schools that follow the national curriculum at the same locations.

Plans are afoot to build more schools in the near future.
