Laurent Bleu Doing Their Part In Sustainability

Laurent Bleu (LB) Medical Clinic, a subsidiary of UCSI Group, is contributing significantly to the welfare of people during this COVID-19 pandemic. In its ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, it is offering RM190 for the RT-PCR test and RM70 for the Antigen RTK at the CMC Centre in Taman Connaught, Cheras daily.

LB is also participating in the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme by running its own vaccination programme at Le Quadri Hotel. The average number of vaccinations given daily is 1.3K. Around 50 to 60 volunteers from different departments within UCSI University and the UCSI community as a whole (including nurses) are helping to manage the flow. This immunisation programme is free for all citizens and non-citizens living in Malaysia. The goal of this is to achieve herd immunity within the community to break the chain of COVID-19 infection transmission and to ultimately end the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The CSRs that we have initiated are reflective of UCSI Group's mission, which is service excellence. We continuously strive to provide the best healthcare for the community, and in this case, making COVID-19 testing affordable and accessible to the people reflects that. With our affordable COVID-19 tests, we are not only giving back to the people, but also to the nation in our efforts to flatten the curve to beat the pandemic,” said Chief Executive Officer Natasha Ng.

The motivation factor behind this initiative is the rising number of COVID-19 cases where not everyone can afford to get tested because of the high price point of the tests. Regular prices of RT-PCR tests and Antigen RTK tests can range between RM210 to RM400 per person and RM90 to RM150 per person respectively.

“We believe that COVID-19 tests should be made easily accessible, affordable, and available to everybody, and we are doing just that. We are offering one of the cheapest COVID-19 tests in Kuala Lumpur. We do not want to leave anybody out so have standardised our pricing to be for everybody, including non-Malaysians,” said Dietitian and Branding Officer, Trina Phua.

After removing the financial barrier of getting tested for COVID-19, Laurent Bleu saw an exponential increase in the number of people who were coming in to get COVID-19 tests. It received overwhelming support from the public for slashing their prices and with more people getting tested for COVID-19, those who were positive were immediately isolated and quarantined to prevent further transmission of the COVID-19 virus.

With LB’s collaboration with BLESS Ministry, they were also able to provide free COVID-19 tests to 29 single-parent migrants who required these tests for employment purposes.

For LB, the goal of this CSR is to “Ensure COVID-19 testing is widely affordable, available, and accessible to everybody." This is in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3 – Good Health and Well-Being.
