James Thang is a highly accomplished professional with an impressive 26-year track record in software development, digital transformation, IT project management, and people management. Currently serving as the Group Chief Information Officer (CIO) at UCSI Group Holdings, he is responsible for leading the Digital Transformation initiative across the entire UCSI Group and its subsidiaries.

One of James' notable achievements includes spearheading the successful implementation of UCSIPAY, a cashless payment mobile app solution integrated with UCSI's Auto Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) parking system and merchant/retail system. This innovative solution not only supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) but also optimizes business processes and approval workflows through the automation of over 40 in-house applications developed by his dedicated hardware and software team.

Recognizing the significance of future digital landscapes, James actively develops sustainable digital roadmaps for UCSI, with a focus on hybrid workspaces and cloud initiatives. He collaborates with the Senior Management Team to explore cloud solutions such as Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), and Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS).

With extensive international exposure in the Asia Pacific, China, and Europe, James has presented to the board of directors and shareholders of multinational corporations (MNCs) and public listed companies. Throughout his career, he has held various prominent C-level positions, including CEO, Group CIO, CTO, and COO, in renowned organizations like Daimler Chrysler TSS, Time dotCom, and Microsoft.

James has received several accolades for his outstanding contributions in the field of technology. He was honoured with the ETCIO Transformative CIO 2022 award by Times Economic Magazine and recognized as a prominent figure in the Global CIO Forum, being listed in The World CIO 200 (Legend Category) for the Year 2023. Moreover, he has been nominated for the Pikom CIO of The Year 2023 award.

Outside of his professional pursuits, James is passionate about Arowana fish and actively participates in Arowana competitions in Malaysia and Indonesia, showcasing his enthusiasm and expertise beyond the workplace.
