Kuala Lumpur, 07 Dec 2012 - UCSI University honoured more than 200 students with various awards and scholarships amounting to RM6 million during its annual Awards Day, themed 'Simply the Best.'
Held within the ballroom of UCSI Group's Le Quadri Hotel, the event recognised high-achieving students in academics, sports and extracurricular activities. Nearly 500 people attended the event, including parents and guardians of the award recipients.
Also present as the guest of honour was the University's council chairman and member of the Board of Trustees of the University's Trust, Tan Sri Dato' Seri (Dr) Musa Mohamad.
Congratulating students on their achievements, Tan Sri Dato' Seri (Dr) Musa Mohamad went on to urge them to continue to strive to succeed in both their academic pursuits as well as other student activities throughout their university life.
UCSI University deputy vice-chancellor of Academic Affairs and Research, Professor Emeritus Dr Lim Koon Ong also shared similar sentiments in his speech.
Professor Emeritus Lim said the students were being recognised for having demonstrated exemplary commitment and competence in the University's Graduate Attributes – including skills such as ethical and civic responsibility, knowledge of disciplines and becoming an engaged global citizen, among others – and encouraged them further to assimilate these skills to achieve greater means.
"With these awards, you have proven that you can succeed both inside and outside the classroom," he said. "As you approach the outside world, remember your time at the University and apply what you've learned to benefit others as well as yourselves."
Amongst some of the awards that were presented include the Presidential award, the Overall Achievement award and scholarship awards.
Another highlight of this year's Awards Day was the presentation of the Edexcel World Top 10 Achiever awards as well as the Industrial Partners Sponsorship award, where the University's industrial partners awarded the students with monetary rewards and permanent work contracts.
High ranking representatives amongst the industrial partners also attended the event to present the relevant awards to the graduates. Among those present were Tan Chong Group, RamRais & Partners, Wellness Concept, Embun Elit Sdn Bhd, Cryocord Sdn Bhd, Theta Service Partner Sdn Bhd as well as Hilti (M) Sdn Bhd.
"UCSI University has provided their graduates with a strong foundation of knowledge and good character. They have helped groom talents, for the real corporate world. I am pleased with the calibre of the graduates that we have engaged and hired into our Tan Chong family," said Ms Monique Wan Mun Yee, the deputy general manager of Talent Acquisition & Rewards Management of Tan Chong Group.
The scholarships that were given out included the UCSI University Trust A-Level Scholarship, UCSI University Trust Scholarship, UCSI University Trust Graduate Fellowship, UCSI University Trust Sports Bursary, UCSI - Borneo Post Education Fund, The Star Education Fund, Sin Chew Daily Education Fund, The Sun-MAPCU Higher Education Scholarship Fund and the Nanyang Tertiary Education Fund.
Students and parents who attended the event enthused that they were proud of the honours.
