Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production

Plogging is an activity which incorporates the collection of trashes while engaging in outdoor workouts such as jogging, running and hiking. The aim is to encourage the community to engage in an active and healthy lifestyle while taking good care of the environment at the same time. To advocate this purposeful habit, our members organise plogging sessions on a monthly basis by clearing up some of the hiking trails around Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. Throughout the programme, we have also engaged with the public to raise awareness about the benefits of this activity and encouraged them to join us or practice it themselves in their daily lives. The programme is a great platform to instil the concept of green-living through the reduction of carbon footprint, waste management and other environmental concepts among the community while instilling the concept of Green Living among the community by engaging them in an activity that is simple yet benefits one's health and the environment as a whole.

Palm Oil Student Ambassador Programme was developed by The Ministry of Primary Industries through Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) involving students from public and private institutions of higher learning in Malaysia. The objective of this programme is to educate the youths on palm oil, its contributions to the country, as well as highlighting the health benefits of palm oil to the public. The programme comprises presentations made by representatives of the Malaysian palm oil industry, programmes on healthy eating and palm oil, and a short talk on palm oil youth advocacy. This is followed by an interaction session with Minister of Primary Industries, YB Teresa Kok. The programme is part of an effort to engage Malaysian students to disseminate awareness on the importance of Malaysia’s palm oil industry to the country and unfounded allegations of palm oil, in particular the biased anti-oil campaign by western NGOs. The youths are given the correct information so that they are able to evaluate and make their own choices, while acting as ambassadors to defend Malaysia’s palm oil.

In addition, they also get to learn how to differentiate types of waste in order to recycle properly. The aim of this event is to get participants to leave with a new mindset and be willing to make a change for the betterment of the natural environment (particularly the sea) even through a small step.
