Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities

My One-Day Uni-Life or MODUL is a two-day event where teenagers of underprivileged background are required to attend for two consecutive weekends. In this event, the participants are given a chance to experience university life at UCSI University, where they are able to attend classes and get involved in student activities. The participants are also required to complete a group assignment under the guidance of facilitators. Through the various activities by MODUL, the participants get to learn more about the positive correlation between education and future career. This year, MODUL focuses mainly on building up soft skills (such as communication skills and teamwork) as well as teaching basic entrepreneurship. Simulation activities are carried out to allow participants to have a real experience as an entrepreneur. Through this event, participants get to build friendships with those of different backgrounds.

Hands of Hope Volunteering Project has a total number of 390 student volunteers since its establishment, reaching out to children from special needs school and refugee schools. With the mission of sowing seeds of change through education towards underserved communities every semester, Hands of Hope connects student volunteers with underserved communities where they provide tutoring services to the children on a weekly basis, mainly for English, Mathematics, and Science. Aside from teaching academic subjects, Hands of Hope also provides music classes at refugee schools in hope to bring a more holistic learning experience for the children. There are several events and projects under Hands of Hope that aim to raise awareness, generate funds and create systems for the underserved communities to be self-sustainable.

Peace and Diversity Training, this programme that aims to promote peace and diversity and to connect citizens irrespective of cultures, religions and nationalities through a series of activities that stimulate dialogues and understanding. Held at UCSI Alumni House, the programme is attended by past participants of Peace Ambassadors Workshop that was developed by The Blue Ribbon Global. The programme includes leadership training, intercultural understanding and climate change.

Continuing Competency Programme (CCP) 2019 is a programme developed by UCSI University’s Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management (FHTM). For 3 months, the programme delivered Basic Training for Housekeeping and Kitchen Operations for refugee students of El-Shaddai Centre Bhd (ECB). This initiative, led by UCSI Group – SDG Secretariat Office was organised in order to fulfill UCS University’s commitment towards UN Global Agenda for 2030 or Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The aim of this programme is to provide participants with fundamental knowledge, basic technical and operational skills, and internship opportunity to perform daily routine tasks within the areas of housekeeping and kitchen operations for hotels and/or restaurants industry effectively, thus boosting personal achievement and continuous improvement, as well as industry development.
